When it comes to running a website you can never have
too much information or help, so finding good usefully
webmaster tools is very important. There are a few general
tools that are a must have so I will go through my list
of tools that I normally use.
PR Checkers:
PageRank checkers/predictors are an essential tool when
trading or purchasing links from other site. If a page
has a PR rank of 1-2, its almost pointless to exchange
links with that site. Of course if you are using a PR
predictor tool and see that on the next update is getting
a 4-5 then you might want to double think your decision.
Of course page rank predictors are not very accurate,
but you can at least tell if a site is going up or down.

Keyword Suggestion Tool:
Very important when trying to decide what keywords youre
going to go after. With this tool, it will tell you how many times
a word or phrase and similar phrases are looked up each day. That
way you can target a word or phrase that can bring in some major
traffic if you get good search engine placement and not waste
your time with keywords that are never searched.

Alexa Ranking:
Theres a lot of mixed feeling with Alexas site ranking
system and although I dont really like it I still use it
quite often to checkup on sites that I consider linking to. One
thing you should know is that cheating the Alexa Ranking is pretty
easy and your ranking does not accurately measure you sites traffic.
For example Bluesfear, a few months back for about 3-4 months
the sites traffic grew about 5-10% each month, but my Alexa ranking
was rapidly decreasing. I would not use this alone to make linking
decisions, but any added info on a site is always good.

Search Engine Spider Simulator:
Another handy tool that comes into play when you are optimizing
your site for keywords. This will show you what search engine
spiders see, that way you can adjust your page accordingly.

Search Engine Stats:
Not really a tool so much as a built in feature on search engines.
The site: and link: lookup features. Go to any major search engine
and type
site:yoursite.com
or
site:www.yoursite.com
depending which one you use on your site it will tell you some
important information. Site will tell you exactly how many pages
your have indexed on the search engine. Meaning how many pages
have been crawled by a spider and added to the search engines
database. Very important to get your pages crawled so the larger
the number the better. Link will tell you how many sites are linking
to your site, again the higher the number the better.
Thats about all the tools I use, if you know of any other
helpful tools please feel free to add it to this post.
